The silicon carbide products can be classified according to the SIC content, the kind of the binder and the amount of the additives. The properties of the materials depend largely on the bonding conditions between the SiC particles in the material. Therefore, according to the kind of the binder, the silicon carbide products are divided into the following:
1.Oxidation bonded silicon carbide: Al2O3-SiO2 series silicate as the binding phase, including clay, mullite and SiO2 bonded SiC.
2. Nitride bonded SiC: Bonding phase Si3N4 \ Si2N2O and other covalent bond compounds
3. Self - bonded SiC: including β - SiC bonded SiC and recrystallized SiC
4. Silicon - Sintered Reaction Sintered SiC: A SiC - based Engineering Ceramic Material consisting of SiC and free silicon
Additional, generally speaking, refractory products with a SiC content below 50% are called semi-SiC products.
